Photovoltaics strengthen their role in the U.S. energy landscape

The U.S. photovoltaic market continues to expand, with growth becoming increasingly evident not only in new installations, but also in electricity generation and domestic manufacturing. According to the latest available Solar Industry Update from the U.S. Department of Energy, 22.4 GWac of new photovoltaic capacity was installed during the first nine months of 2025, 3% more than in the same period of the previous year. The contribution of photovoltaics to electricity generation is also becoming increasingly significant. During the twelve months through August 2025, photovoltaic systems supplied 8.2% of U.S. electricity generation, compared with 6.9% in 2024. Alongside the growth in installations, domestic manufacturing is also evolving. During the first half of 2025, approximately 15.7 GWdc of photovoltaic modules were produced in the United States, representing a 126% year-on-year increase.
