A camera becomes a tool for photovoltaic analysis

A conventional digital camera can be transformed into a tool for studying the characteristics of photovoltaic cells. This is demonstrated by German research using a modified Canon EOS 4000D, with the infrared filter removed and the device subjected to a specific calibration procedure. In this way, the camera was able to detect the electroluminescence emitted by silicon cells, providing quantitative information also related to open-circuit voltage. It is therefore not simply a matter of taking a photograph: when properly captured and analyzed, the image becomes a source of data on the characteristics of the photovoltaic device. The research shows how widely available technologies can find new applications in photovoltaic characterization, contributing to the development of potentially more accessible analysis tools.
The ability to observe the characteristics of cells and modules with increasing precision reinforces the importance of research throughout the photovoltaic value chain. For Peimar, this evolution is part of a path in which technological development and product knowledge advance together, helping to transform scientific innovation into an increasingly deeper understanding of module performance.
