When photovoltaics take agriculture beyond the power grid

Growing food in limited space without relying on the electricity grid: in Mexico, agricultural research and photovoltaics come together in a project exploring new possibilities for food production. The system uses aeroponics, a technique that makes it possible to grow crops without soil and to reuse water and nutrient solution through a closed-loop system. The required electricity comes from a small 50 W photovoltaic module, sufficient to power the prototype during the testing phase.

This is an example of photovoltaics from a different perspective: not only large-scale plants or rooftop installations, but a technology capable of enabling autonomous applications in agriculture, research and areas with limited access to the grid. The variety of Peimar solutions also opens the door to these new scenarios, where every available surface can become a small source of energy serving a specific project.
