When a photovoltaic system is integrated into a building, performance is not the only factor to consider. Roofing materials, insulation, module configuration and installation characteristics interact with one another and can also influence the system’s behavior in the event of a fire. A series of tests conducted in Europe shows that adding a protective layer between the roof and the insulation can, in certain configurations, help limit the spread of flames. The results do not yet point to a universal solution, but they reinforce an important principle: safety must be assessed by considering the system as a whole.
The module is therefore part of a broader system in which design, materials and correct installation must work together. This perspective also highlights Peimar’s approach to product quality: developing photovoltaic technology means considering not only energy generation, but also the reliability and integration of the module within the project for which it is intended.
